Today, the #Angels have acquired Minor League RHP Carlos Espinosa from the Houston Astros in exchange for OF/1B Trey Cabbage. So who is Espinosa and why did the Angels make this move?
Trey Cabbage was DFA’d last Saturday to make room on 40-man roster for Matt Moore. Cabbage could have gotten claimed but he's got too much potential to be claimed free so the Astros put in a trade for him. Angels got Minor League Cuban RHP Carlos Espinosa. Espinosa, 22, had a 4.29 ERA with 70 Ks in 56 2/3 IP between the Rookie-level FCL and Class A last year. It's way too early to say if he will be good and probably won't play in the MLB for a few years but it's better than having nothing. Nice move.
