The Rams Sign DB Duke Shelley

The Los Angeles Rams have signed defensive back Duke Shelley to its active roster. So who is this new player?

Duke Shelley, who is now 26, played college football at Kansas State. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in 2019 in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers. He played in nine games as a rookie but mostly on special teams.

In the 2021 season, he started the season as the third cornerback on the depth chart behind Jaylon Johnson and Kindle Vildor. He played in nine games with three starts before suffering a hamstring injury in Week 11.

In 2022, Shelley was waived by the Bears. He was then claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Vikings. In 11 games with the Vikings, Shelley recorded 31 tackles, an interception, eight passes defensed, and a fumble recovery while starting in five of the 11 games he played.

Shelley will join the Rams after spending this offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders. He is a physical cornerback who is good in run support. He is also a good tackler and has good ball skills. He is still developing as a player, but he has the potential to be a starting cornerback in the NFL. Duke Shelley is a talented young cornerback who is still developing. He has the potential to be a starting cornerback in the NFL. Good signing by the Rams hopefully.
