Today the Angels announced that two-way superstar, Shohei Ohtani, has been placed on the injured list with his oblique injury and won’t hit any more this season, per Alden Gonzalez. General Manager, Perry Minasian, said an MRI of Ohtani’s oblique yesterday showed he wasn’t going to be able to play again this year, so he had his stuff packed to prepare for a potential elbow procedure as soon as today. But it was not today, though. Minasian doesn’t know yet when it or what it will be. Last month, it was revealed Ohtani will not pitch for the rest of the season with a UCL tear in his right elbow. Now he will no longer hit and pitch. So what does this mean?
Well, it seems that Ohtani will never play for the Angels again. He will be a free agent this off-season and has stated he wants to play for a winning team. Unfortunately, Angels have failed to prove they are a winning team for quite some years now. So there is no reason for Ohtani to re-sign with the Angels, although there is still a small chance as it's ultimately up to Ohtani. But many speculate he is going to a new team.
This has been an awful ending to Ohtani's time with the Angels as both Angels fans and Ohtani did not get to experience his final time the right way. No one expected him to not finish the season and not have a proper potential good-bye. Just an ugly way to end things. He's still expected to be in the Angels dugout for this homestand.
