According to Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams are set to elevate Chris Shula, who has been serving as the LBs/pass rush coordinator, to the role of defensive coordinator. Shula has been a part of Coach McVay's staff since McVay assumed the head coaching position in Los Angeles back in 2017, and he is now getting his opportunity to step up in this new role. So who is Shula and why did Rams make this move?
Chris Shula was previously the pass rush coordinator and linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He comes from a prestigious football lineage:
Football Legacy:
Son of Dave Shula, the former head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Grandson of NFL Hall of Fame coach Don Shula, renowned for his remarkable accomplishments with the Miami Dolphins.
Part of one of the NFL's only three-generation coaching families in history.
Career Highlights:
Chris Shula's coaching journey began in 2010 when he started as an assistant linebackers coach at Ball State. He later gained experience with coaching roles at the Cleveland Browns before joining the Los Angeles Rams.
He has taken on pivotal positions with the Rams, including serving as a defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator before assuming his current role.
Shula contributed to the Rams' triumphant Super Bowl LVI victory in 2022.
He has a playing background, having been a linebacker at Miami University (Ohio) where he was teammates with the current Rams Head Coach, Sean McVay.
So there you have it. Rams hired him due to his prior experience with the Rams and his close relationship with head coach, Sean McVay. Is this a good move? It should be but only time will tell.
