Big news this morning, Angels Designate Ryan Tepera For Assignment. This was long overdue, he hasn’t helped the bullpen at all. He’s allowed 9 runs in 8.2 innings this season. Just can’t have this kind of stat as a reliever. Hurts to lose $7 million on this move (what he's owed), but it’s the right move. Last season, his first season as an Angel, he had a 3.61 ERA 57.1 innings. Not the worst season but below what everyone expected from him. If this means that it'll make the Angels bullpen better, then it's worth it.
Taking Tepera’s place on the active roster will be right-hander Zack Weiss, who was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Weiss hasn't pitched this season yet in the Majors but he did last year for the Angels. He was pretty solid last season with a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings. This year in the Minors though, not so good. 6.75 ERA in 12 innings. He does have a lot of strikeouts though with 18. He may be used in situations where Angels desperately need a strikeout. Regardless, hopefully he won't be as bad a Tepera.
