LAFC have acquired left back Omar Campos from Liga MX side Santos Laguna. So who is Campos and why did LAFC sign him?
Omar Antonio Campos Chagoya, 21, is a talented young Mexican footballer who recently moved from Santos Laguna to LAFC in the MLS.
During his time with Santos Laguna, Campos contributed with a total of 3 goals and 8 assists in 114 matches across various competitions. He also had the opportunity to represent the Mexican national team, El Tri, making his debut last December in a friendly match against Colombia.
Campos’ arrival is expected to address the gap left behind by left-back Diego Palacios, who departed for Corinthians in the Brazilian top-flight during the winter transfer window on a free transfer.
Achievements and Highlights:
Campos went through the Santos Laguna youth academy and made his professional debut in 2021.
Scored his first professional goal for Santos Laguna in 2021.
Considered one of the most promising young full-backs in Mexican football.
Earned one cap for the senior Mexican national team.
Joined LAFC in January 2024 for a transfer fee of around $5 million.
Omar Campos was reportedly rejected by Barcelona on loan due to a low offer, showcasing his potential and Santos Laguna's high hopes for him.
So that's him and hopefully he is able to be a good replacement for Diego Palacios. Let's see.
