The 2024 NFL Draft concluded last weekend and Rams had 10 picks! Here’s a quick recap on who they got along with a brief description on what they can bring.
Round 1, No. 19: Jared Verse DE, Florida State
After Aaron Donald retired, one of the biggest needs was a new top defensive end. Verse had 9.0 sacks in 2023, which ranked third in the ACC. He also had 50 pressures, which were the eighth-most in the FBS last season. Is he the next AD? Probably not but can be a nice defensive end.
Round 2, No. 39 (via Carolina): Braden Fiske DT, Florida State
Losing Aaron Donald really created a wake-up call to fix up the D-Line. Last two seasons, Fiske had 11.5 sacks when lined up as DT, which is the second-most in the FBS over that span. Fiske was Verse’s college teammate and now they play together for the Rams.
Round 3, No. 83: Blake Corum RB, Michigan
The only solid RB Rams have is Kyren Williams. Corum is a nice addition to back him up. Last season, Corum set the Michigan single-season records for rushing touchdowns (27) and total touchdowns (28). Nice!
Round 3, No. 99: Kamren Kinchens S, Miami
Kamren Curl is pretty much the only Rams solid Safety. Yes, Rams have more Safety’s but will they make big plays? Kinchens seems like he can,
11 interceptions since 2022, the most by any FBS player over that span. Not bad!
Round 5, No. 154: Brennan Jackson, EDGE, Washington State
Another defensive guy. Jackson had 8.5 sacks in 2023, which was tied for fourth in the Pac-12 last season. He also had three defensive touchdowns. Solid.
Round 6, No. 196: Tyler Davis DT, Clemson
Rams not messing around with their defense. Davis had 144 tackles (29.5 for loss), 16 sacks and three pass deflections in 56 career games (52 starts)
Round 6: No. 209: Joshua Karty K, Stanford
Kicker position is a weakness for the Rams. They don’t really have one right now so this is a nice pick. Karty made 41 of his 45 field goal attempts over the past two seasons.
Round 6, No. 213: Jordan Whittington, WR, Texas
Whittington had 42 catches for 505 yards and a touchdown last season while playing with two other receivers who have already been drafted.
Round 6; No. 217: Beaux Limmer, C, Arkansas
Rams don’t really have a Center. Steve Avila is expected to be Center next season but if things don’t workout, we got Limmer now. He started 11 games at center in 2023 and one game at left guard.
Round 7, No. 254: KT Leveston, G, Kansas State
Leveston can play any position on the O-line, nice depth pick up.
Overall, I’d grade the Rams draft a B+. I felt they went too crazy on the defensive players but still nice pick ups. Good draft.
