LA Kings Fire Todd McLellan

Today the Kings have taken the decision to relieve head coach Todd McLellan of his duties and have appointed Jim Hiller as the interim coach for the remainder of the season, as confirmed by GM Rob Blake. So why did the Kings make this move?

Well, it's pretty obvious, the Kings are struggling badly. They got the talent so there's no reason they should be doing bad. Yeah some players are doing bad but that's also part of the coaches job to help them get better. After starting the season off as one of the best teams in the league, the Kings have lost 14 of their last 17 games. So they had the skills and talent to be a top team but when the slump hit, McLellan failed to turn the team around. Slumps happen but it seemed like Kings couldn't get out of it and something needed to change. It's clear that the Kings are still playoff contenders and are making a championship push, so they don't want to waste any more time losing. Something needed to change and trading for a good player didn't really make too much sense as they already have good players. So the best move was to make a coaching change. Not to say Todd McLellan is a bad coach, he's a great coach but the issue was he couldn't figure out the slump. He did a lot for the Kings since 2019, but coaches don't last forever. Is this a good move? It should be becuase like I said they have the players. Jim Hiller will be the new head coach for now and it's unknown if that's the best move but we'll see. Let's hope Hiller can push the team back to the right direction!
