For the 2024 NFL Draft, LA Kings selected just 4 players in 7 rounds. So who did the Kings draft and who are they?
Round 1, #26 overall: Right Wing - Liam Greentree
Greentree, (6-2, 214-pounds, 18 years old), entered the Draft as the No. 14 ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting. He spent the last two seasons with the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Greentree served as Windsor’s captain this past season, he recorded career highs in goals (36), assists (54), and points (90), leading his team in all three categories and earning a selection to the OHL Third All-Star Team. Through 125 career OHL games played, Greentree has accumulated 135 points (61-74=135). In the 2022-23 campaign, Greentree’s 25 tallies was the most amongst OHL rookies and earned him a selection to the OHL First All-Rookie Team. Greentree is a native of Oshawa, ON, and represented Canada at the 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 World Junior Championship. Greentree’s four points (2-2=4) in seven games helped Canada capture their fifth gold medal in tournament history. Good pick!
Round 2, #57 overall: Goaltender - Carter George
Goalie pick! Considered ‘one of the most consistent goalies’ entering 2024 NHL Draft, George (6-1, 195-pounds, 18 years old) has played for the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the past two seasons. George posted a .907 save percentage (SV%), 3.30 goals-against-average (GAA) and a league-leading four shutouts to secure a 23-21-6 regular-season record for the Attack this past season. George was selected to both the OHL First All-Rookie Team and OHL Third All-Star Team and was awarded the Bobby Smith Trophy for OHL Scholastic Player of the Year. A Thunder Bay, ON native, he represented Canada at the 2024 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Under-18 World Junior Championships this past spring. George was named the Best Goaltender of the tournament after posting a 2.33 GAA and .915 SV% to lead Canada to a 6-0-0 record and a gold medal. This pick makes sense as Kings don't really have a long-term goaltender in their future and just might now.
Round 6, #164 overall: Defenseman - Jared Woolley
Woolley, (6-4, 210-pounds, 18 years old), split this past season between the London Knights in the OHL and the St. Thomas Stars of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). Following a 19-game stretch with 21 points (6-15=21) for the Stars, Woolley notched five points (3-2=5) in 37 games for London. A Port Hope, ON native, Woolley played in all 16 of London’s playoff games in the OHL Playoffs, registering three points (1-2=3) and winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup in the OHL Championship.
Round 7, #198 overall: Forward - James Reeder
Reeder, (5-10, 175-pounds, 18 years old), spent the past two seasons with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the United States Hockey League (USHL). Reeder served as an alternate captain in the 2023-24 campaign and recorded career highs in goals (20), assists (40), points (60), penalty minutes (30) and plus-minus (plus-11). The winger also notched five points (1-4=5) in 11 USHL playoff games. A Glenview, Ill. native, Reeder finished his USHL career with 94 points (35-59=94) in 114 regular season games played and will join the University of Denver Pioneers (NCAA) next season.
So that's the LA Kings 2024 Draft class. Let's see how they do for the Kings future!
