LA Clippers Sign G Joshua Primo

Yesterday the LA Clippers signed Free agent G Josh Primo to a two-way contract. This is a great signing by the Clippers in a few ways. So who is Primo and why did the Clippers sign him?

Joshua or "Josh" Primo is a Canadian professional basketball player who last played for the San Antonio Spurs in 2022. In college, he played basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft by the Spurs.

Primo made his NBA debut on October 20, 2021, coming off the bench in the final five minutes with three points in a 123–97 win over the Orlando Magic. Primo was the youngest player who attended college to play in the NBA. He also was the youngest player in the NBA during the 2021–22 season. In his rookie season, he averaged 5.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He shot 38.2% from the field and 30.1% from three-point range.

Primo is a good athlete with good size for a guard. He is also a good defender. So what happened to him?

On October 28, 2022, the Spurs waived Primo. This came after reports that Primo had been inappropriately exposing himself to women, most notably Dr. Hillary Cauthen, a former psychologist for the Spurs organization. Cauthen has since filed a lawsuit against Primo and the Spurs.

Primo has denied the allegations against him but he has been engaged in ongoing therapy – which will continue in LA.

The NBA suspended Primo for four games Friday after a probe found that he had “engaged in inappropriate and offensive behavior by exposing himself to women.” So why did the Clippers sign him then?

Well, he is only 20 years old and the 12th overall pick in a draft. And his allegations on him are safe to say fairly minor so there's no reason for him not to play anymore. Although he has not done much in the NBA yet, he is still super young with a ton of potential. There's a reason why he was drafted 12th overall. Since he's not a proven NBA player yet, a two-way contract makes the most sense. This is a great low-risk signing that can potentially bring in a great addition to the team.
