Dustin May To Miss Some Time

Tough news for the Dodgers. Dave Roberts said Dustin May has a flexor pronator strain and he will be placed on the IL, no timeline for return just yet. Robert’s said May could be out for at least a month, probably longer. LHP Justin Bruihl will be added to roster.

Robert’s immediate reaction was, “it’s not great” in response to being asked how May was doing.

Dustin May has undergone MRI testing and Roberts added that more testing will be done.

This is pretty tough news because Dustin May has already missed almost the whole 2021 and 2022 season due to Tommy John Surgery and there's a chance he can miss this entire season due to another Tommy John Surgery. Even though they said todays injury is a flexor pronator strain, I don't think it's safe yet to rule out TJ surgery, usually involves a lot of testing to know so we may hear some news later on. But hopefully, I am wrong and hopefully we can have May back as soon as a month from now. Either way, losing a month in a season is still tough news especially for a pitcher like May, who's having a very good career so far. He's having a pretty nice 2023 season so far as well - 4-1 record, 2.63 ERA, 34 strikeouts in 9 starts.

This is also effecting the Dodgers starting pitching rotation as they now only have a 4-man starting rotation. This will not give starting pitchers enough rest so they are going to have to find somebody to be the new 5th man. It's possible that Gavin Stone can be called up again as he did start a game earlier this month but who knows what Robert's will decide. Stone is unproven and Syndergaard has struggled. That leaves only Urias, Kershaw, and Gonsolin as the only proven starters. Hopefully someone will step up soon for the Dodgers.
