The Dodgers selected the contract of RHP Wander Suero and optioned RHP Gavin Stone. Who is Wander Suero and does this mean we won't see Stone anymore? Not at all. There's a good chance Gavin Stone will probably pitch again next week (Monday or Tuesday maybe) but as a starting pitcher, he needs his rest. He can also be optioned to minor leagues without being DFA'ed so might as well call up someone else. It doesn't make sense to call up another starting pitcher as they already have 6 (including Stone) and they are set with their postion players. So the best move is to call up a reliever.
Wander Suero has never pitched for the Dodgers before but spent 4 Major League years with Washington Nationals winning a ring in 2019. His last last year, 2021, he didn't pitch well at all which is why he hasn't been in the Majors since. Dodgers decided to give him a shot and signed him to a Minor League deal earlier this year. He's doing pretty well in the Minors (AAA) with a 1.69 ERA and 8 strikeouts in 10.2 innings. That doesn't mean he's going to do well in the Majors but you never know until you try. He probably won't be with the team too long anyway unless someone gets injured.
