Dodgers #2 Prospect To Make MLB Debut

The Dodgers #2 prospect, RHP Bobby Miller, will make his MLB debut tonight. Miller was drafted by the Dodgers in 2020 in the 1st round, 29th overall pick.

Miller probably wouldn't be making his big league at this time if it wasn't for all the injuries that the Dodgers have been picking up lately. They're currently down to only 3 starting pitchers right now (not including Miller) and one of them has only bad 2 big league appearances (Gavin Stone). Julio Urias and Dustin May are on the IL, and Kershaw is on the bereavement list. With no one else to turn to, the perfect time to call up Bobby Miller is now. It's questionable if he's ready, that's why I mentioned he probably wouldn't be called up right now if it weren't for the given circumstances. Even Dave Roberts mentioned that Bobby Miller isn't an option just before his call up.

Miller has only made 4 starts in AAA this year. He has a 1-1 record, 5.65 ERA, and 12 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. On paper, it's not a good stat line for a starting pitcher but there's been many great pitchers in the Major Leagues who have had a stat line like that in the Minors but excelled in the Majors. So is this the right move? Yes, because who else will they turn to and only time will tell if he's ready. This could be the start of a new Dodger ace.

As part of Miller's call up, Dodgers placed RHP Tyler Cyr on the injured list with shoulder impingement, retroactive to May 21.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Dustin May to the 60-day injured list. That means May won’t be back until at least after the All-Star break.
