Clippers Find A New General Manager

The Los Angeles Clippers have found a new General Manager. Just a few weeks ago, their last General Manager, Michael Winger, left for another job at the Washington Wizards. Rather than going out to look for a replacement, Clippers decided to go in-house and promote Trent Redden to General Manager. Redden had been an assistant GM for the Clippers since 2017. In another staff move, Mark Hughes, who also joined front office in 2017, is now the senior vice president/assistant GM.

So what does this mean? Well number one, they got a General Manager now which is pretty important as NBA Free Agency is rapidly approaching. NBA free agency will begin on July 6, 2023. The free agent process will begin on June 30, 2023, when teams can begin negotiating contracts with free agents. And Number 2, the Clippers front office remains pretty much the same which will help keep plans for the future the same and maintain the team. We don't want a new guy coming in and trading away the whole team.

Redden has overseen much of the team’s scouting operations which helps build his eye for talent, while also overseeing its G League affiliate in Ontario. Redden has drawn the attention of rival teams in previous seasons but stayed with the Clippers which shows he's a potential good GM. He came to the Clippers after working 11 seasons in Cleveland, where he served as assistant general manager when the Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA championship so he has championship experience. Let's see what Redden can bring to the table.
