The Angels continue their busy off-season by acquiring yet another player. The Angels and versatile veteran infielder Kevin Newman, have agreed to a one-year deal, per Jon Heyman. There will be a club option for a second year.
Newman, 31, played all four infield positions last season for Arizona, where he hit .278 with a .686 OPS. He’ll likely be the backup for Zach Neto, Anthony Rendon or Luis Rengifo. Newman has a career .262 AVG, .665 OPS, not too bad for a backup. Good signing.
He now joins Jorge Soler, Scott Kingery, Ryan Noda, Kyle Hendricks, and Travis d’Arnaud as the new acquisitions this offseason.
