Anaheim Ducks trade Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick to the Oilers

As the NHL Trade deadline approaches, Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks are finishing off a deal that will send Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick to Edmonton, per Frank Seravalli. So why did the Ducks make this trade and who did they get in return?

Well, Ducks are not making the playoffs this year and probably won't this year so they need to continue to rebuild. Adam Henrique is entering the last year of a five-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $5,825,000, while Sam Carrick is in the final year of a two-year contract with an AAV of $850,000. That's some salary space opened up to sign new guys and Ducks also get some draft picks. Sucks to see Henrique and Carrick go but they likely will not re-sign if they stayed so might as well get something out of it. Good trade.

Full trade:

To #Oilers: Adam Henrique (75% retained), Sam Carrick, 7th Rd Pick

To #Ducks: EDM 2024 1st Rd Pick, Cond. 2025 5th Rd Pick

To #Bolts : EDM 4th Rd Pick

Cond: 5th becomes 4th in EDM wins the Cup.

Tampa also must send a reserve list player.
