Trade Deadline today! Anaheim Ducks have acquired center Ben Meyers from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round selection in the NHL Draft. He will report to Anaheim today! So who is Meyers and why did Ducks acquire him?
Ben Meyers is from Delano, Minnesota and spent three seasons at the University of Minnesota (Big Ten) from 2019-22, recording 39-56=95 points in 102 career NCAA games. Meyers was signed by Colorado in 2022 as an undrafted free agent, he has scored 11-14=25 points with a +2 rating in 32 games with the Colorado Eagles this season. Meyers also has some NHL experience. He recorded 6 goals (6-0=6) in 53 career NHL games with Colorado throughout 2022-24, including a goal in his NHL debut April 16, 2022 vs. Carolina. The 5-11, 194-pound Center has registered 1 goal in 9 appearances with the stacked Avalanche this season. He also appeared in six Stanley Cup Playoff contests with Colorado in 2023. Not bad.
This seems like a solid acquisition. It adds Center depth to the rebuilding Ducks. And all they gave up was a 5th round pick which is hard to find a good player in that round. Nice move by the Ducks.
