The Anaheim Ducks have acquired C Jan Mysak from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Jacob Perreault. Mysak will report to the San Diego Gulls. So who is Mysak and is this a good move?
Jan Mysak, 21, was selected 48th overall by Montreal in 2020, and is in the second year of his 3 year ELC. Over a span of three seasons, he dedicated his time to the Laval Rocket in the AHL, where he contributed (20 goals, 11 assists) 31 points and 28 penalty minutes across 110 games. This season with Laval has seen him notch (13 goals, 7 assists) 20 points in 48 games. Prior to his AHL stint, the 5-11, 190-pound center showcased his skills with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the Ontario Hockey League during the 2021-2022 season, impressively tallying (34 goals, 30 assists) 64 points in 61 games. Notably drafted by Montreal in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Mysak's journey in hockey has been marked by notable achievements, including leading the Czech Extraliga junior league in points during the 2019-2020 season and representing his country in three consecutive World Junior Championships. His standout performance in the 2022 tournament earned him a spot on the All-Star Team after netting 8 points, including 5 goals, while serving as the captain for Czechia. Originating from Litvinov, Czechia, Mysak's hockey journey reflects his dedication and talent on both domestic and international stages. So Mysak seems like a nice prospect. As for Perreault, he is doing a little worse than Mysak so far in his development. Last season, Perreault only had 8 goals and 11 assists in 48 matches. Not so impressive. So I think Ducks won this trade. Nice move!
